5 Things You Should Consider Before Buying a Laptop Power Bank

WHAT TO CONSIDER

Laptop Compatibility

You should look for a Laptop Power Bank with a compatible charging system. We currently have the full size laptops that use the external AC charger and the more modern USB-C powered laptops.

If you have a USB-C powered laptop then ensure that the Laptop Power Bank has at least one USB-C power output.

If you have a full-size laptop then look for a laptop power bank with a built-in AC Outlet. These can power any laptop, regardless of its make, model or screen size.

Battery Capacity

Usually when it comes to batteries, bigger capacity is better.

We however recommend looking for a laptop power bank with a 20,000mAh or larger battery capacity.

Why? This capacity will ensure that you can fully charge your laptop at least once and have some spare power to recharge a smartphone or a tablet computer.

Power Output

You should look for a laptop power bank with a power output rating of 60Watts or more.

If you have a USB-C type laptop; such as the MacBook ProDell XPS or the HP Spectre; the USB-C output should be rated at 60Watts. Some laptops can charge sufficiently charge with 30 watts or less. However a 30Watt USB-C will charge a 60watt USB-C laptop at a slower rate though this has no effect on the laptop battery life.

If you have a full sized laptop then we recommend an AC outlet with a 100 watt or more power rating. For high-end gaming laptops we recommend a power rating of 200 watts or more.

Portability

The size and weight of a laptop power bank depends on its battery capacity and AC output capacity. The larger the battery capacity or AC output capacity, the larger and heavier the power bank will be.

If you plan to cater to a long power outage or spend more time away from a power outlet, then prepare to carry a bigger power bank.

Recharging

The faster you can recharge your Laptop power bank, the faster you can reuse it.

For indoor/home use an 8-Hour recharge period is sufficient eg at night when asleep so you can use it during the day. For persons who are outdoors for extended periods, a faster recharge rate is ideal.

Another recharge consideration is the mode(s) of recharging. Most laptop power banks are recharged via a USB-C charger. However, others support several modes of recharging such as solar and other DC Power source. This makes them quite versatile and ready for recharge in more environments such as off-grid areas and mobile homes where most power sources are 12 or 24 Volts DC
